Summer 2022 tour – Iceland

After a long, long winter in the USA Pacific Northwest (spring decided to skip us this year), the geek cyclist is heading to Europe, participating during the summer in different events, some organized, some with hired guides, some with friends and family. I’m traveling with my steel bike: the Peregrine Falcon, a recent build that I put together specifically for this trip. The next blog entry will be dedicated to this process.

The first stop for the journey is Iceland, the land where it’s possible to find magma and glaciers within miles, with breathtaking views and bicycle trails for the adventurous ones. I will be riding in the region of Landmannalaugar, close to the Hekla volcano.

The two-night, three-day expedition is organized by Icebike Adventures, which has been featured in the GCN channel. We will be sleeping in remote cabins, supported by an all-terrain vehicle.

The route consists of three gravel climbs, each with its own difficulties and terrain, although the common factor will be low temperatures and most likely, wet days.

My preparation and recent participation in the Leavenworth Gran Fondo will definitely help dealing with these conditions. I brought my drone (bluezzard) and the 360 camera, so hopefully I will be able to share some nice shots.

Until then, ride smart, live epically.
